We believe education needs to extend far beyond the traditional classroom. Our Real Life Experiences, include field trips and community projects, foster practical skills and enhance student engagement and add creative diversity to our students' learning environment. These activities help students apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings for a deeper understanding.

Immersive field trips bring classroom lessons to life. Our excursions are designed to foster practical skills and deepen students' understanding across their primary subjects:
These experiences also promote active participation
and lifelong learning.

RLEs are scheduled throughout the school year with each excursion centering around a theme. Teachers prepare lessons which align with the topic and help students adequately prepare for the trip. This engages students and helps them mentally categorize the facts and information they've learned for the trip.
After each trip, students are required to generate journal entries or other forms of responses to improve retention and demonstrate effectiveness.

Each year, the RLE planners seek to create a lively mix of topics and destinations for the program participants. Pprevious destinations and classes have included:

All fully-enrolled Light House students are eligible to participate in the RLE program. Experiences are usually scheduled during the afternoon, last for about two hours and conclude at regular school dismissal time.
LHA students are given the opportunity to do some advance preparation for the trip through supplemental classroom lessons or independent study. They are also expected to take notes and be ready to interactively discuss the experience with the faculty, their families and their peers.
They are further rewarded during mid and end-of-year game show competitions where they are challenged to recall previous RLE trips.

Other non-enrolled students in grades K through 8th may also enroll in the RLE program.
Participation requirements include:

"It [RLE] is fantastic. Our kids love it and when we talk about it with others They think it is so cool! JM
"RLE classes provide valuable life lessons which can't be learned in the classroom." SC
